Salmon Fishing Scotland Spring Salmon Fishing on the Tay, Perthshire in early season.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Spring Salmon Fishing on the Tay, Perthshire in early season.

The lower Tay in Perthshire, Scotland is famous for Spring salmon fishing when we have cold weather as has happened recently and last year when the lower river had the best spring catches in 30 years. The beats around Stanley can dominate the catch returns as the salmon run up the river and hit several rapids on Benchil, Pitlochrie, Catholes, the Linn on Taymount and Stobhall making them slow down and take a rest before they continue their journey upstream to the headwaters. This week so far over 90% of the salmon caught on the river have come from below the Linn Pool on all the Stanley beats with some salmon not being registered.

This is one of the famous pools of the lower Tay that suits high spring water. The Linn pool on Stobhall and Taymount.
