Salmon Fishing Scotland Spring Salmon Fishing on the Lower Tay, Perthshire.
The lower Tay around Stanley was once the most famous area to fish for spring salmon in the world as catches back in the 60's and 70's proved. Last year we saw a dramatic increase in spring catches in early season due to cold temperatures and the Stanley beats caught their best catch in 30 years for early season to the end of April. One swallow does not make a summer but this week has seen the pattern start again which has given every one a lift after all the recent high water and unfishable days. Will it continue? well we don't know but let us hope it is the case and the river has another memorable spring.
The Pitlochrie beat at Stanley has seen some very good catches this week with now over double figures registered. This is a picture of Pitlochrie pool at the top of the beat with Steve McGrandles playing a spring salmon on Monday.
John Morrison with a cracking spring salmon also caught in Pitlochrie pool.
This is Dougie Wangert playing a good salmon in the Wash House.
A typical Tay spring salmon successfully landed weighing 12 pounds.
