Salmon Fishing Scotland Spring Salmon Fly Fishing on the Tay, Perthshire, Scotland 2011.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Spring Salmon Fly Fishing on the Tay, Perthshire, Scotland 2011.

I was lucky enough to get a cast myself today on the Benchil beat of the lower Tay just below Stanley, Perthshire, Scotland. It was a great chance to cast the new 15 foot G Loomis NRX rod.
Not long down the Long Shot and I hooked a salmon fly fishing from the bank.

After a good tussle I landed this magnificent spring salmon which weighed 12 pounds. The salmon was hooked on a Monkey fly fished fairly quickly due to the long wing. The fish was deep hooked and slightly bleeding but with patience it recovered and swam off safely released. It is a fallacy that if a fish is bleeding you must kill it. They do survive but maybe not in all cases. This one certainly did.
