Salmon Fishing Scotland Spring Fly Fishing on the Lower Tay. Perthshire March 2014.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Spring Fly Fishing on the Lower Tay. Perthshire March 2014.

The river Tay in Perthshire, Scotland had risen sharply overnight from mild temperatures and heavy rain and the water was a bit coloured as well. Most would have thought there was no chance today and would have taken a day away from the river exploring the other attractions of our area. Not our Swedish party! They were going to give it a go come hell or high water!

A superb image of a fly fisher in a blue sky on the Catholes with his rod bent into a fish, alas this was a Kelt.

Oscar Florell playing a good spring salmon in the Woodside on the Catholes at Stanley on the fly.

Oscar successfully landed his fish weighing 12 pounds prior to release.

An old hand drawn map of the Stanley beats.

Pitlochrie pool has been fishing well in all the high water recently. On Tuesday Brian Brown landed 5 fresh spring salmon from the pool up to 15 pounds in the boat with ghillie Davie Seaton. Today it proved a good cast for the Swedish fly fishers with 2 spring salmon successfully landed casting from the bank.

This was a superb 15 pounds springer caught by German angler Stefan Franzmann.
