Salmon Fishing Scotland Tales from the Salmon King.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Tales from the Salmon King.

This is a small poem by Alistair Sheach as a tribute to Colin Leslie.
His 50 years are in the past,
such wonderful memories are sure to last,
the names of Moore, Rockerfeller and Wragg
whose exploits appeared in the fishing mags,
their names live on as angling legends
and the name of Leslie was the man who helped them.
The gentleman's gentleman always giving attention,
having a dram or two for purely medication,
Colin Leslie every anglers inspiration.

As poetry is doesn't scan, but a nice tribute to a larger than life character.

Has he died?

As poetry is
What sort of English/ Scottish is that?
Does not scan.
Maybe in iambic pentameter?
I would bet your fly casting would fall short of the mark compared to that of Mr. Sheach.
Own goal!

After landing an 8 lb grilse (no Salmon permit) on a 4lb b/s lead, and a size 14 black spider nymph, we saw Colin leslie walking up towards the bridge. With the fish still kicking and a finger in the gills to carry it, our rods only popped in two with reel and line still attached to the fish, we ran with Colin in hot pursuit to the main road. We received some strange looks from the passengers as we boarded he old yellow bus heading to Coupar Angus. I remember looking back and seeing colin shaking a fist from the field.

We were just boys of 13 back then and some 30 years later, I met colin in Cairns Australia and we both enjoyed a a beer and a laugh at the memory. If you read this Colin please drop me an Email at BanDon@virginbroadband.com.au
