Salmon Fishing Scotland April 2008 Spring Fly Fishing on the Tay Catch and Release.

Salmon Fishing Scotland April 2008 Spring Fly Fishing on the Tay Catch and Release.
Spring Salmon from Murthly on the Tay.

Ian Scruton returning a fresh Spring Salmon from the lower Murthly beat of the Tay in Perthshire, Scotland. Ian caught the fish Fly Fishing from the bank.
These are Ian's comments below.
The photo I sent yesterday was on the Murthly lower water, fish landed in the boat pool on a size 10 cascade.
I can only pray that these runs of beautiful salmon continue along with the catch and release policy now endorsed by the vast majority of anglers.
We will see the benefits of returning these fish in the next few years and for once the future is starting to look just a little rosy!

I Couldn't have put it any better myself.

Once you take your heads out of the sand -- you will realise the benefits are cyclical and nothing to do with catch and release -- it was time that was needed. Humans have very little patience.

Big fish from the Tay, Spey, Dee etc. Probably due to a change in conditions at sea. Long may these continue.
If this is the case, catch and release will allow more smolts to take advantage of these favourable conditions thus accelerating the cycle, benefiting fish, fishers, river and everyone involved in earning a living from these.

catch and release helps . and yes salmon at sea cycles help generate bigger fish . but when are we going 2 help the spring run when they are on the redds fishing rivers like ericht and shee in september and october and almond . we are only killing stale spring stock on the redds it must stop ....... fishers must relise this .. there is no back end run on these rivers . no fresh fish fish . so why fish for them unless total catch and release ..
