Salmon Fishing Scotland Stanley beats, Tay, Perthshire Report and Prospects for W/C 30th August 2021.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Stanley beats, Tay, Perthshire Report and Prospects for W/C 30th August 2021.

There have been a further 20 plus salmon and grilse caught over the last couple of weeks on the Stanley beats despite low water and blistering temperatures. There is no doubt we need rain and a pulse of fresh water.

Steve Pecks party enjoyed a good three days in mid August with Steve showing the way here in the Long Shot on Benchil.

Another fresh grilse for Steve at the tail of the Long Shot on the fly.
Not to be out done! His son John did well in the same location landing 3 in an hour up to 7 pounds.
Later in the same week Chris Lofthouse and Mark Wadland came for 3 days. This was Mark with his first ever salmon caught on the fly. Small but perfect!

Mark with another grilse from the Corner Pool on the Pitlochrie beat.

The following week was far more difficult with dropping water levels and a large high pressure over us causing very hot blue sky days. Despite this Jeremy Tuite landed this lovely salmon.
At the end of the week we had a group of Farriers from the Newmarket area. It was a great 2 days as mostly they had not seen a river like the Tay and they were new to salmon fishing.

This was a first ever salmon for Billy McQueen, it was small but perfect for Billy.
Its looking like another dry week but rain is in the forecast so let us hope for a boost in catches again.
Fish have been caught on Luncarty as well with Tim Greenfield and Jack Gregory successful on fly.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Stanley beats, Tay, Perthshire Report and Prospects for W/C 16th August 2021.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Stanley beats, Tay, Perthshire Report and Prospects for W/C 16th August 2021.

We have waited all summer for a run of salmon but it has finally happened in the last couple of weeks.
In July we were dominated with hot weather and low water with river temperatures exceeding 70F daily.
The weather has broken giving us fresh water and cooling the river encouraging summer salmon to run.

Initially it was slow with the river collapsing to 2" in Tim Greenfields week however there were still some memories created. This was Tim with a lovely Grilse for the Woodside on the Pitlochrie beat on the fly.

Peter Thomas caught this Grilse in the Long Shot on Benchil on the fly.
More rain fell at the end of that week putting the river up again and encouraging more salmon to run producing a superb week of sport.

Jim Mclanaghan and his cousin enjoyed a superb 3 days landing several salmon up to 15 pounds on fly and spinner. This was Jim with a 15 pounds fish on the fly from the Long Shot at Benchil.
suspense as Stuart plays a lively fish on the fly in the Long Shot eagerly watched by Jim and Millie.

Stuart over the moon with his first Tay salmon and on the fly.
Steve Gordon also had success on the fly from Horsey on Wednesday.
We them welcomed Geoff Robinsons party back again after 3 days on Cairnton on the Dee with Brian Brogan where they had a great time under his stewardship. I carried on where Brian left off with 10 fish in only 2 days as we had another dirty water on Thursday.
The pressure was on, Walter had not caught a salmon in his 2 week visit to Scotland! Hey presto he was in at last! My rod and one on my Alistair TTT's!

Success at last and so well deserved, a lovely 12 pounds beauty. There were a few other incidents but they remain private!!!

Andy Waddington with a cracking fish from the long Shot. He also had a nice grilse in Horsey on Pitlochrie on Fly.

This was Ronnie Henderson landing one of two fish from Horsey on the fly on the Pitlochrie beat on Saturday.
It has been a great week and hopefully will continue for a good few weeks to come.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Stanley beats, Tay, Perthshire Report and Prospects for W/C 2nd August 2021.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Stanley beats, Tay, Perthshire Report and Prospects for W/C 2nd August 2021.

It has been a slow summer period until the last week or so with very low water and high temperatures however some welcome rain put some fresh water in the river and encouraged a summer run to start.

This was a delighted Rachael Russel with her first ever salmon, a Grilse caught on the Pitlochrie beat on her last cast of 2 days fishing.

Last week I had Geoff Robinsons Party fishing for the week. It was a slow start but after some rain the action started!

Geoff playing a good fish on the fly from the boat in the Long Shot at Benchil.

A superb 17 pounds fish on one of my soft hackle plastic tubes.

It wasn't long after the the same fly had hooked another fish for Terry Speake.

This one weighed 15 pounds.
Paul Jones had a week to remember catching 4 fish with a superb 18 pounds fish on the fly from Kirkie on Saturday being the best after it ran 100 yards downstream before being landed. Paul is new to fly fishing so was super pleased and excited!
This was John Layborne from earlier in July with a 13 pounds fish on Benchil.
The fresher water last week has disappeared back to 3" but the water has cooled by 5F encouraging fish to run the river. There are Grilse and summer salmon running now and more rain in the forecast which should see sport maintained over the next few weeks.
